‘YOU CAN’T GO. It’s far too risky.’
In her chambers, Princess Nemeia, daughter of Nefaria, pulled a face at her brother Neven’s cautionary words.
‘If you don’t tell her, she won’t know — I’ll be there and back before she even notices I’ve gone.’
‘She expressly forbade you to have any more contact. You know what she’s like,’ warned Neven, leaning on the door of his sister’s room as she readied herself to leave.
‘It’s been two years since I’ve seen Lumina, and today is her twenty-first birthday. I’m going to her banquet. If she asks, will you please tell Mother I’m out?’
‘And where do I tell her you’ve gone?’
Nemeia was already dressed in her party attire, a floor-length sleeveless midnight-blue gown and sparkly silver kitten heels. Her long dark hair was gathered up, loose waves framing her face.
